The host was South Korea, while the first edition was won by the United States, the ED1 HoD of the USA left the contest shortly before the show. The South Korean participant hosted the contest in ED2 instead. It was won by Sweden with 213 points, a new system was introduced that added a second set, called jury, to the voting. The server vote was won by Sweden with 124 points, while South Korea won the jury vote with 122 points. Greece received 2 points in total, all from the server, being the only country to get a jury nul until [[Edition 11]]. It also hosted the contest four times, more than any other country. Japan and Sweden are the only countries to host the country more than once. Japan was very successful from Edition 1 until Edition 10, reaching the top ten in 7 out of 9 appearances, finishing third twice in a row. In ED10 however, they finished in the bottom five for the first time, finishing only 22nd out oof 25. Japan was excluded from Edition 11 due to Edition 11 only allowing former Eurovision songs. Japan returned in Edition 12, finishing 10th, however, since only 17 countries participated in Edition 12, Japan failed to secure a place in the left half for the first time twice in a row. Their all time low was in Edition 14, when they failed to qualify by placing last. Japan did not manage to return to the final in Edition 15, by placing 11th in the semifinal. Their luck changed in Edition 16, when Japan won for the first time, making it the country that had the longest wating time for a win. They managed to win both the jury and the participant vote, making it the first time that Japan won the participants vote. They only received 254 points from the jury, the highest score ever achieved in the jury vote, and won with 410 points, making it the first and so far only time that a country received over 400 points, additionally, it's the only time that a country won with a margin of over 100 points. However, this moment of luck was only for a short time, as Japan achieved the worst result of a host country in Edition 17, placing 21st in a field of 27 countries. In ED18, they equalled their worst result in the final from ED10 by placing 22nd. Host was Sweden, after their win in ED2, making it the first time, that the previous winner hosted. It was won by Czechia with 205 points. The participants vote was won by Germany with 108 points, while Czechia won the jury vote with 122 points. San Marino received 34 points and finished last, while debutand Latvia received 12 points from six countries, a record broken by Czechia in [[Edition 11]].
